    Gilcrest 25 Jewel Incabloc Automatic...

    Good evening,

I have my dad's old Gilcrest from the days when he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company.

It has an ETA 2792-4 Movement according to the back cover.

I had it cleaned, buffed and a new crystal put on. They changed the crown and mainspring as well.

    Here's a before:

    And an after picture:

I really like the starburst case and dial.

Nice watch. Except the movement isn't an ETA 2792 but rather an Adolf Schild Cal. AS 2072 family (the day-date version is either the Cal. AS 2076 or 2166 depending on whether it has a hack feature):

Cool, thanks for the info, Hartmut, I struggled to match seconds with atomic time last night so no hack on this one. :)

I guess the 2792-4 is a model number, it was on the back of the watch.

Trim: I might give it back to him but maybe not, I ordered a Doxa Numa for my dad who's a big Clive Cussler fan, so I may keep this one. :)

The 2076 is a 17 jewel movement, mine says 25?

I used babelfish to translate the site, I see the movements were 17 or 25 jewel. Thanks for the info, can you tell me anything else about them? Is it a good movement?

The 2792-4 may be either a reference number or it may just be a case serial number. The AS 2076 is one of the last Adolf Schild calibres and almost all of them, although generic, are of high quality. On the same par in their day as the modern ETA 2824-2 is nowadays.

That's nice. I really like the checkering on the rotor.
