    Girard-Perregaux ID

Hello, helping a friend identify a watch left to them. we don't believe it super valuable and are not concerned with that as much as we would like to know what model / year it might be. Thanks in advance for any knowledge shared.

Welcome to Watchuseek. It looks like a fairly standard GP automatic from the early 1960s. GP never made their own automatic movements before the post-quartz revival but they did take generic movements and place their own automatic winding system on top. They started with the Peseux Cal. 330 and later used the Adolf Schild Cal. AS 1687. If you can show a picture of the movement, that might help age it further. The Peseux 330 version looks like this:

    bidfun-db Archiv: Uhrwerke: Girard-Perregaux 19

...whereas the AS 1687 version looks like this:

    bidfun-db Archiv: Uhrwerke: Girard-Perregaux 31

Nowadays, the make fully in house movements, of course.

Thanks Hart, I'll try to get a pic of the movement without breaking it. ;)

Be careful if it's a snap back case, it can be very easy to mar it if so when trying to pry it open.

Nice watch, but please get that hideous strap off of it and burn it.

...wait: could this be a very early attempt at a carbon fiber strap...without the carbon??
