    Hi and welcome.

AFAIK there isn't a list of GP serial numbers anywhere on the net. Indeed, our illustrious contributor Roland Ranfft said this in an earlier thread:

"The number written on GP movements is not a serial number, but the combination of calibre.., version .., and a batch number, the meaning of which only GP will know."

A picture of the movement will help to date the watch. As it is, I'd guess - and I mean guess - late 1930's to early 40's. Great looking watch you've got there.

    Hi Marrick,

Thanks for the Help and for the complement, it's in unique condition too

do you think the movement is universal Geneve?? maybe a variation of the 281 or 283??

I'd shoot GP an email with your photos and the number.

That is a great looking watch, by the way. Does it run?

That sure looks to me like a variant on the Valjoux 72. It should have a "R" logo under the balance wheel, and if you're lucky a number that will define the movement. Fantastic watch! I really like that sedondary clock at 12.

That is a Universal Geneve 285 (Universal Geneve 285 = Martel 749 = Zenith 146) in the original Aero-Compax configuration. The second timezone is indeed just a reminder, set from the crown at 9 o'clock crown, and is not connected to the movement.

There is a very similar watch branded GP in the UG archives with case number 22432, darned close to yours. From Sala: "Unlike Eberhard, Girard Perregaux commissioned ready-assembled and marked chronographs directly from Universal."

    Nice find!

    Great information LouS.

According to Universal Genve since 1894 - Official Website (click on 'chronology') the Aero-Compax was introduced in 1940.

That is a rare and desirable timepiece you have there. Name: harrypotter_32x32.png
