Gruen Day Night watch - correct hands?

    Model name : Day Night
    Type : Aviator
    Period/date : 1950-60
    Gender : Male

    Case Maker : Gruen
    Case Material : Steel

    Caliber : 510
    Movement Maker: Gruen

    Hi folks

Just bought this Day Night, but suspect that someone has changed the hands for some reason. I've only ever seen them with luminous filled Dauphine style hands. Can anyone tell me if they also issued them with the baton style herein?

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael

I've never seen a day-night with those hands and to me they don't look quite right, but I'm no expert.

I own a '58 and have searched through many more, and I've never seen those style hands until later in the 60s and mainly 70s for most watches in general.

I, by no authoritative means, would highly doubt that would be the correct hands. That being said, the dial is quite attractive. The base dial is very similar to mine, and most like mine always came with the arrowed, slender pointed hands, generally the same color as the markers and or numerals...I would imagine like the shiny tone around the green of the markers.

I'll keep my eye out, and you keep researching as there used to be a gruen forum and website, so info probably exists somewhere. Worst case, find a similar model with a trashed dial and pluck the hands. Dial looks great. Nice watch!

This is the later model Day Night Jump watch i would have assumed your hands came from:

Unless this is yours, from the website that sold it to you, I have no explanation for this.

Seeing these, I would think this is what yours should look like.

No, I don't think it is. I am waiting for mine to arrive, so that is the seller's picture, but it looks like he has a military style strap, carbon fiber style. The dial in your picture has some damage, whereas mine looks clean (I hope).
Thanks again, will post an actual pic when it shows up.

I didn't think it was. Your hands might be original then.

BTW, did you see this 'artist's interpretation' of an Airflight? Mind blowing stuff - eBay item 330941054421 Words fail me... it's apparently 'museum class.' Uh huh. Hideous.
