Gruen Quadron 157 Tank 15J Indentification

    Hello Everyone,

I am trying to identify my grandfathers cut corner Gruen 157 Quadron. After some research, It seems to be made around ~1928 and looks to be a tank model. I have not been able to find an exact match to this watch. Especially with the blue minute and second hand. Any help with identification and rarity would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I have this model in the green-gold filled case. I think your's might correspond to the Quadron 69 as ID'd in Shawkey's Collectors guide. It is also shown in my copy of the 1929/30 Gruen Guild/counter book. See image below. Your estimate on the 1928 date is likely spot on; give or take a year.

The small amount of wear that is showing on the case corners can be fixed by a competent jeweler. A good watch maker can get this serviced and also have the hands lumed with modern glow-in-the-dark material. It is a nice watch. Wish the one I had was in as good shape; mine is only good for parts.

As to rarity... Well, Gruen was a mass-producer of watches. So... not something I see everyday but certainly do see one or two for sale over the course of a year.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks JackW! I appreciate your help. It has been a lot of fun researching these old watches.

There are a quite a few watches that we will keep in the family. As for this gruen, it does not have a story attached to it so I'm hoping that someone can find it on eBay in time for Christmas present.

    Thanks again
