    Guba watch history?

    Hi all

A while back I posted about a mystery logo and had a few very helpful replies - thanks especially to Hartmut for telling me about Guba watches, a brand I'd never heard of. I suspect the the mystery logos must be some evolution of the Guba logos - perhaps a son? There's the 'B,' pretty plainly, but then there seems to be another letter, which variously and 'S' or maybe a 'W' or 'E.'

But looking deeper into the mystery, little seems to be out there. There's Ranfft's page. There's Christoph Lorentz' page. There's Mikrolisk. But in all of this, there's hardly a word about the actual company. Anyone know anything more about them?

    Thanks.

If you want a history of GUBA, you should go to Ranfft's page here:

bidfun-db Archiv: Uhrwerke: GUBA Uhrenrohwerke Gustav Bauer KG, Ellmendingen bei Pforzheim, Otto-Maurer-Str. 17

Name derives from the founder, Gustav Bauer, located in Ellmendingen near Pforzheim (West Germany's watch capital before reunification and the re-rise of Glashütte). A small ebaucherie which went under perhaps as early as 1964.

    Re: Guba watch history?

    Hi there,

I'm afraid that informations about Guba are lost. A contact to H.F. Bauer, the watch division of the pesent Bauer-Walser AG only turned out the confirmation that Gustav Bauer was a son of Hermann Friedrich Bauer. But it is not known when and why he stared his own business, and whether there were business relations between both.

Guba was obviously more successful with the watch business than HFB, while HFB survived until today, likely because movements were only a minor activity, and case production wasn't really affected by the quartz crisis.

    Regards, Roland Ranfft

So the logo pertaining to the watch in the original thread could indeed be H F B with a stylish f between h + b like this one
