    H Samuel "Defiance" Pocket Watch

    Hi everyone

I have just been given this pocket watch. It apprears to be either silver or stainless steel and the only other thing I can tell you is that it is at least 45 years old possibly older.

Can anyone enlighten me as to its origins etc

We would need clear pictures of the watch face and most importantly the movement in order to identify it. 'Defiance' sounds like it is taken from the watch case, not the movement. It was a trademark of the Star Watch Case Co. for a gold filled 10 years guarantee case, but does not match with your description of a silver coloured case.

Here is a link to how to open a pocketwatch case, in case (pun not intended) you have not done so yet.

Does the movement look anything like this?

That's the only pocket watch movement I can find offhand with the calibre designation and that's Swiss. Could be imported, though, and used by a British maker - most of the German watch indistry nowadays is based on Swiss movements and the watches still say "Made in Germany".
