    Hamilton 942

Here is my Hamilton 942, private label to A. Wagner & Bro. Monroe, Michigan. As can be seen both dial and movement are signed.

The 942 was the highest quality Hamilton ever made for a 18 size 21 jewel watch, together with its grade 943 hunter case sister. It received higher finishing than the far more common railroad workhorse, the 21j 18s grade 940. A period advertisement from 1903 can be seen here.

This particular watch was finished by Hamilton May 25 1901, and sold June 14 1901 to A. Wagner & Bro. Monroe, Michigan. Grade 942 was first made in 1898 and production stopped in 1914. However, as this was an expensive watch, the last movements of grade 942 were not sold until 1919. A total of 5913 movements were made.

I apologise most sincerely, for not coming here earlier to drool over the beauty of this watch...

I love the movement! It's so beautiful. Can we see what the caseback looks like?

Caseback. It is a gold filled 'Peer' case. The name was initially used by Bates & Bacon watch case company. They were bought by Philidelphia watch case company in 1901, and Philadelphia continued using the name.
