    Hamilton Emerson

Today's outstanding flea market find was this Hamilton Emerson that I got for a grand total of $3!! I needed to overhaul it before it would run, but it cleaned up nice (I installed a new crystal). For now I can just look at it until I have time to go get a 14mm strap for it. :)

Does anyone know how to date it from that serial number?

    Enjoy,
    Ron

    Wow, what a find!
I've got more Converse sneakers than watches, but it is a close race.

You absolutely stole that one...The serial number list that I found said the 980 was made from 1934 to 1951. Serial number range: G101 - G669400. Yours is toward the middle of that range so...early to mid 1940s. Straight extrapolation yields a date of 1941.

    Nice watch...thanks for sharing.

The deals are out there, but it takes a lot of looking. This one was so dirty and the crystal was so bad you couldn't see through it! It also helps to be able to do some of the work yourself so you can save on the restoration. I always forget to take the "before" pic, but is was pretty beat up. Ron

I know what you mean. The one I got in the mail the other day should have been marked 'biohazard' it was so nasty. dirt and body cheese came off in chunks...Yuk.
