Have a watch with Baume(only Baume) on dial - would appreciate help please

    Hi all,
My late Father-in-law had this watch:

Any advice re: getting it serviced would be useful please, as it works but only intermittently.

    Thanks,

    Danny

Welcome and sorry for not replying earlier. I had hoped others might chip in but they seem to know as much (or little) as I do.....

The most famous Baume is that of Baume & Mercier but this is not one example of their work. Another Baume was also associated with Longines and you will find an example of their watches here:

Ultimately, I don't know which Baume that one is by. To find out more, one would have to look inside and for that, you would have to get a specialist to open it up so you could take and post a picture of the movement. On the whole, it looks definitely like it was made in the 1960s.

The serif on the A means that it would have been a product of the London based Baume.

As the ad shows, they were distributors of Longines and Heuer as well as marketing their own watches. If I recall correctly, the 2 outfits (Baume and Baume & Mercier) were originally products of the same family but completely separate companies - certainly by the time this watch was made.

    Good info Marrick,

These Baumes are not so common as other brands were in the UK and were a cut
above, which Marricks ads point out, using good movements and producers.

I wonder if your Baume contains a Longines movement or an ETA finished by Heuer perhaps.

I bought a Baume once and posted this thread...
