Help date my Harman Chrono w/ Valjoux movement

Anyone care to take a stab at dating this one? ... And confirm it's a Valjoux VZ or 23 caliber? It measures about 12 ligne as far as I can tell. From the photos on the web I've compared to it seems that maybe it's an early version of this caliber.

It's very new to me, was an estate sale find. Runs but has stopped one me twice in the past 3 days. Could just need a cleaning but I'd like to find a competent trustworthy tech to take a look at it.

    Hi Cubby01,

I think you are on the right track with a VZ movement...

According Mikrolisk seems Harman was a brand from a NY based company registered in 1933. With this info and the look of the watch I would date it to late 30's to 40's.

Harman Harman Watch Co. / Harry Friedman Großuhren, Kleinuhren, Chronometer; New York, USA; registriert am 1.5.1933

    Regards,

I'm interested about the number scratched in under the lug...2539...?? not sure what that is all about but interesting all the same...???? looks like it has had some relume on the dial and not sure about the originality of hands but it looks like someone has got some gold paint and painted all of the hands including the sub dial hands...All the same a nice looking chrono with a great movement...

Thanks folks. It does appear to have had some re-lume work done. I don't know about the hands but the gold paint, or whatever, on them is unfortunate.

What will a movement clean and check set me back one one of these? I don't have a lot invested in it yet. I do like the idea of wearing a chrono of this period though. Just not sure if I should use it as a stepping stone to something a little cleaner dial and case wise.
