    Help with Gallet Mc12

I have some questions about a Gallet Mc12 with ep40 movement. Does black dial increase price? Is this model hard to find? Age of manufacture? Is this a desirable model? Should i get it restored or keep it like it is? Watch has some light scratches from someone trying to open case back. I am having trouble uploading pictures.

    Hello Joseph,
I was the one on the Gallet facebook page that responded to your message.
While not a rare model, a black-dialed MultiChron 12 with the flat pushers is certainly not common at all. Overall, it's a great piece.

For other readers of this thread, JC purchased this piece from a watchmaker friend many years ago. He's not used it much at all since then, so internally it is in great condition.

The oils have certainly degraded in the almost two decades, so if you do plan on wearing and using it, have it serviced properly otherwise it will grind itself to death.

These are definitely gaining in popularity lately, and thus price as well. The black dials do seem to fetch a little more money as well. They're very cool watches, and the EP40 is fantastic movement. I don't know what your intentions with the watch are and what you mean by "restore" it but all I can say is do NOT polish it, do NOT change or touch up the dial and hands. Have the movement cleaned, oiled, adjusted if you're planning on wearing. If you're planning to sell, I would say don't touch it, take great pictures, and provide an honest description.

That case looks very sharp, which will certainly help the value. "Rare" gets thrown around a lot these days, so it kind of depends on what your definition is, but on any given day, you can usually find a couple of these for sale across eBay, forums, dealers, etc. I hope to get my hands on one of these EP40's one of these days myself, they have loads of character and are a great size. Enjoy the watch.
