    Help Identifting Unique Hamilton Wristwatch

Dear Horophiles, I wanted to see if someone could help me identify this vintage Hamilton wrist watch. I've done a fair amount of research on it after inheriting it from my Grandfather and have concluded it is a variation of the Hamilton "Gilbert" - however the connection to the band appears to be quite unique. I'd also appreciate some insight on the crown - does it look original? I'd like to fully restore it (as much as possible) to the original state. The band is, of course, something I bought after inheriting it. I have not opened the watch to get the serial number because it looks like it was damaged during a previous repair.

    Thanks!!
    The Diplomat

Beatiful watch. It does look like a gilbert. If you can get some movement pics that would make our job a lot easier :)

I know - I'm just paranoid about opening her up...I'm in Hong Kong these days and concerned about the quality of the watchmakers.... If we can't identify it from the outside, then I'll take the plunge..

Please let me know if you see any areas in particular which need to be better restored
    Thanks!!!

Open her up from home. It looks like a snap case. A dull butter knife will open it safely.. the bottom, where theres a gouge in the case, gently push the knife into in and it should pop right open.

Okay - pulled the trigger and opened her up.

It is a 982 movement with 19 jewels and the serial number is J229778!

I've attached another picture - the movement looks all original as does the casing and the crystal...

    thanks guys!

I can't help with the model name (looks like the Essex to me - but that would have a 17j 980 movement - I think). In the ads the strap goes over the second bar. However, I can add that the movement serial number dates to 1945-1946.

Thanks guys - sorry missed that forum! I appreciate the assistance - to me its very cool to find out how the movement dates to the WWII period...

Thank you - would love to know the model if we can deduce it. Does look like that Wilshire.
