P.S.: The file size of your images are way to large. You could simoultaneously reduce the picture size as well. Your image above has 2,2MB, the one below has 0,1MB (108KB)

Re: Help to identify pocket watch

The Q.te before the name stands for the French word qualité (quality) and refers to the watch case. You find this Q.te in connection with many names. A system was agreed in Switzerland (where French is one of the official languages) at the end of the 19th century, to indicate a certain quality of the finish and make of a watch case (sometimes referring to quality in general, the whole story is a bit unclear, unless someone else here has better infos). These were high-end watches in their time. So your watch has been produced around 1900 onwards; the experts here will most likely be able to say more when they see the movement.

The cyrillic letters indicate that it is a watch made for the Russian market, but there had also been some Swiss watchmakers who made their watches in Russia. H. Moser f.i. established his business in St. Petersburg before returning to Switzerland.

If you key in 'Q.te' or 'Q.te Salter' into Google, you find tons of links leading to Russian language sites. You might want to take the time and find out a little more by copy/pasting Russian text into the Google translator. The results are of course not always easily understandable, but you will certainly pick up one or the other interesting piece of information.

There is also the story, that Swiss watchmakers in Russia like Moser used the 'Q.te' inscription together with the names Monard, Salter, Bouttes, Mole, and that a lot earlier than by the end of the 19th century.
