    Help identifying age of watch

I was doing some work on a few watches out of my grandfathers collection when I came across a very interesting unmarked French movment. I know it's French as the regulator on the balance says "avance/retard" but other than that the only other marking is 1654 and the makers signature. Can anyone tell me anything else about this watch?Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1438811795.884311.jpg

Actually, it's probably Swiss; French is one of the official languages, and much of the Swiss watch industry came from France in the beginning anyway, so French terms tend to dominate.

Didn't know that, do you know how old this watch is?

Your watch is definitely not French. Le Locle is located at the French/Swiss border...on the Swiss side of it.
The movement is Swiss too- an FHF, I believe.
I can't see the maker's name properly, but it looks like G. Jacot. In that case I would lean towards saying that the watch was made by Gustave Jacot of Le Locle:
Mikrolisk - The horological trade mark index
Age? The trademark was registered in 1916 according to Mikrolisk, so I would assume that your watch has been manufactured after 1916.

Given that it's pin set and the rachet wheel is held on by a nut then I'd say very close to 1916. Certainly no later than 1920.

Here is a likely movement candidate (probably a bigger version of this one). I agree - very likely Fontainemelon (FHF):
