Question Help Identifying Old Elgin Pocket Watch

    Hi all,

wondering if you guys could help me identify this old watch I found, apparently it was my great grandfathers, we're not sure but there is an engraving on the back with the initials "SSS" or "SGS". Considering it's age and how no one has seen it in 30 years is still runs pretty good and keeps the time, now that's craftsmanship! Before I clean it up I want to know more about it, I am just curious to learn more about the origin and maybe some fun horology facts . Anyways, pics below and thanks in advance:

Since I can't see the serial number on the movement, you should go to either or both of these sites and type in the number.

you have a model 3, size 12 movement. A better picture of the serial number on the movementwould help to date it.

Looks like an Elgin Grade 303 too me, which is a size 12, 7 jewel movement. Like Dch48 said, type in your movement's serial number into one of those sites and you'll get more info as well as an approximate date of manufacture.
