    Help identifying a Universal Geneve

    Hi there:

My friend was given a watch of his grandfather’s and asked me to tell him about it. I am by no means a UG expert. I was hoping you guys could help. It’s a Unisonic D. He says the back says: Universal Geneve 18 karat gold. Patented 2618432. He only sent these pics. No movement photo.

Any idea what kind of movement it has or what era it is from?

The movement inside will be a "tuning fork", presumably the Universal 52, which was basically a Bulova Accutron 2180. The serial would date it to 1968, which was the year UG introduced the Unisonic.

The case and dial certainly make it worth more than enough to justify having it serviced. Nice watch!

Wow, with the blurry picture of the dial, are you sure? and no movement picture? You guys getting soft in your old age :)

Anyone know a watchmaker in NYC who works on these movements?

Well, you'll need someone specialized in Accutrons, and thus tuning fork movements in general.

If you won't get any watchmaker recommendations here, I suppose you can ask in the Bulova forum as well.
