HELP IDENTIFYING and valuing this vintage 1960's Girard Perregaux

    Hi,

My dad has asked me to value and identify my grandfather's watch which was passed down to my dad. It is a solid gold piece and is engraved 1964 at the back along with my grandfather's name. I think it is a giromatic, according to the text on the dial but i am not entirely sure.

Could someone here please help me identify it exactly? :)
Also, if i could get a rough value of it. It is old.. really old.. about 50 years old! And i doubt it has been serviced, i gave the crown a turn or two and it still runs!

If the photos dont work, theyre on my photobucket here:

Provided it is authentic, that is a Gyromatic, a 36000vph movement. There is one on ebay right now and the current bid is $0.99...BUT it is a nine day aution so...

That appears to be a custom caseback though...from Singapore, Malaysia, or Indonesia maybe? The three names on the back are the same as some government leaders from the sixties from those countries, and the names popup when searched with Girard P. At least I was not able to find that caseback. Hope this helps.

It is definitely authenthic, was given as a loyalty gift from SHELL, hence the logo behind, and that is one name: "Thng Thiam Chye" my grandfathers.

It is from Singapore. $0.99.... how much would a proper value be? Even if it weren't much, it is a solid gold watch.

My guess, with the emphasis on guess, would be about $1400 to $1800. GPs of this era usually float around the $400 mark in this classical style if they are in good condition. The premium I suggest is dependent on it being in great condition and the gold being both 14k to 18k solid. The right presentation and the right buyer could net you more perhaps.

Normally, given the forum rules, I would edit the post and remove the information. Since another moderator has been involved already, I will let it stand. At the same time, I would caution the original poster against relying too much on this valuation. For one thing, even a professional would have to see the watch, the state the movement is in, etc. etc. before being able to make a definite valuation. And most (if not all) of us here aren't even professionals! Finally, I have attached a link with a post of mine to show what can go wrong even when you rely on the professionals.....
