Nice watch, any chance of case back and movement pictures? That'll help to identify it a bit better.
It looks like a typical 1940's gents watch to me, probably just retailed by Cartier, but that's just a guess on my part.
I love the aged lume dial and if it was mine I'd have it serviced and fit a proper sized strap and wear it.

Very nice watch and in my opinion 100% original.
The movement will I suspect be SWISS and not made by Cartier, at that time they were a jeweler and retailer more than a manufacturer.
Not that, that would detract from the watch at all.
Note the additional 24 hour dial - very Rolex!

Yes it's really cool. Might be mine someday and I'll wear it with pride. He'll have to let me open the caseback to get some movement shots. Any guess as to what it might be worth? He'll get a kick out of knowing the price. Will never leave the family, though.

Here is an old Cartier ad from 1945,i think your watch was probably made within a couples of years either side of this date as yours is a slightly different model(24 hour track),the hands and numerals are the same style. In the ad it quotes "all duty watch" so i`m guessing that is referring to the 24 hours a day.Anyway, nice watch and enjoy it,if you get it.

You'll need to have it serviced by a reputable watchmaker before you can wear it. The case is rather worn and seems to be plated? Cartiers tend to be worth a bit if they're real, but they also tend to be frequently copied, so it's best to get as much information from your grandfather about it as you can. I'm slightly concerned about the 24hr track, as it seems to be slightly off-center (closer to the right of the dial then the left, but only by a half mil or so).

Thanks for all the advice. Will definitely be serviced an not restored if I ever get a hold of it. I told my grandpa it should get a little work done, but he likes it on his wrist too much to let it go for a few weeks.
