Help me find a vintage Omega

I'd really like a vintage Omega dress watch. Something like a Seamaster perhaps? Just nothing gold, nothing with square cases.

I know nothing about them, I'd like to spend under $300 if possible. I'm afraid to just start bidding on ebay, because I, like Jon Snow, know nothing.

Well, there are dozens of Omegas which fit into these criteria. As laikrodukas has suggested, it would be best if you simply post a watch you're considering in this forum, and we'll tell you if there is anything wrong with it. Knowing nothing... Seems familiar, especially given the fact that you consider using eBay. An eBay listing has the advantage of the possibility of letting us have a look and providing feedback, but the watches there are more pricey than at fleamarkets, so the risk's more likely to hurt the wallet. At a fleamarket, you risk less money, but you're on your own.
In case of both sources, you have to do quite some research. Basic references? Omega vintage watch database, and the Ranfft movement archive. Avoid watches with signs of redial (non period-correct font used, bad quality of printing, looking too good to the point of suspicions arising, and so on), different shades of gold used for plating the parts of the movement(for example a combination of yellow-gold plated rotor and red-gold bridges of the movement). Lots of these things to take into account, and given the fact that Omega is one of the most frequently faked brands, caution is much advised.

Re: Help me find a vintage Omega

I had thought about posting the ebay listings I'm directly interested in, but then of course I'm concerned about someone saying "oh hey, that looks great!" and bidding against me.

I guess learning is worth it though.

I tend towards round cased, slim, hand wound.

I'm looking for something running, although of course the question is how much will it potentially cost me to get it adjusted and repaired if needed?

    Some examples:

Vintage Omega Geneva Stainless Steel Men's Wrist Watch Swiss Made 1970'S | eBay

Vintage Omega Seamaster Geneve Stainless Steel Case Ref 166 002 Cal 565 | eBay

    1962 Vintage Omega 269 17J Manual Watch | eBay

Vintage 1950's Stainless Steel Omega Bumper Automatic Watch V90 | eBay

Omega Seamaster Men's Watch Vintage 354 Automatic 17 Jewel 1954 Stainless Steel | eBay

Should I be nervous about anything outside of North America? I've heard that Ukraine has some bad habits of selling mutilated watches, and I've also heard that India is the capital of the world when it comes to putting new dials that aren't quite right on watches.

Last three terrible redials at best, I would not touch them
First one, dial photos to poor to tell, but I am concerned that case is a fake
    I never inspected the movements

    Stay away from Ukraine

But the ad says All Original! a seller would never lie! Right??

I was wondering how a 1950s watch could have such a pristine dial.

Be suspicious of low prices. Look for good, sharp, clear photos. Read descriptions carefully. Don't be afraid to ask the seller a question or ten about the watch. And, as suggested, post here for expert advice. Finally, be patient, and do your homework. It is very satisfying to gain the knowledge to know what is "right" in a watch.

    Good luck!

So, you're thinking the third one might be okay?

VINTAGE OMEGA SEAMASTER GENEVE STAINLESS STEEL CASE REF. #166.002 CAL 565!

    A few new ones:

Omega Seamaster SS Date Serviced Cal 565 Caseback Ref 166 020 Nice Looking Watch | eBay

Vintage Omega Automatic Geneve Wrist Watch 563 Serviced Working Original Box | eBay

That last one if real, would go for quite a bit wouldn't it?

I feel like such a noob. Oh wait. I am.
