Confused Help me to identify this Breguet pocket watch

    Hello

Please provide information about this Breguet pocket watch. The only information that I have is:
    - Gold 18K.
    - Diameter: 38mm x 11mm.
    - Dial front signed Breguet and dial back signed 34.
    - Movement not signed, only with reference 34.
    - 2 covers: 1 signed with 34 EPI 5062.
    - The watch uses a key to set time and wind.

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards

Re: Help me to identify this Breguet pocket watch

Doesn't look like a genuine Breguet, more like one of the countless fakes made at approximately the same time. The movement looks like a derivative of the Lepine II generic layout. There were fake Breguet watches in solid gold alright- they weren't that sort of fake as what we see nowadays ($10 Chinese quartz "Rolex" that you can just buy on the streets), but something closer to elaborate art forgery.
Now, "doesn't look like a genuine Breguet" doesn't mean that it isn't, I know way too little to say for sure.

I think the ame as mkws. The case is really a wonderful hand engraving peace gold ..fantastic. The lepine II movement is extra flat one with cylinder escapement and very modern their times. It definetly needs cleaning and date the watch around 1830/40. One part of the cross, the finger, for limit the use of the spring in the main section is missing and I miss the english word- sorry.( here: Uhrentechnik: Historie und Technik mechanischer Uhren ).

While I would not attribute this watch to the original Abraham Breguet what are the possibilities that this was made by the Breguet company after Abraham's death? I realize that most watches marked with the magic "Breguet' are indead fakes.

Re: Help me to identify this Breguet pocket watch

    HI RONinPA,
you must be really an expert to decide a orginal Breguet or not. Just because of the orgin it makes a gread price difference. A lot of people like to have a watch from the greatest wachmaker of the world but there are many facts which speak against a orginal:

    1. The books fro Abraham Breguet are still excist. All watches are listet with their story. Its profable for an expert

    2. No wathmaker during his lifetime and a while after was so often faked as Abraham Breguet (1747- 1823). In fact a lot more watches signed Breguet of other orgin excist as his own

    3. This is a "normal" Lepine II bridge arrangement and Breguet prefers the Type IIa even if he build a watch without complications. The Lepine classification depending on the bridge forms was made secondary by lazy collectors to get a rough overview about the timeline. These bridge arrangements those times have been basicly caused by the "production lines" of Japi beaucourt the biggest and other ebouche makers.

    4. The finish of this movement is very good but not extraordinary as a breguet would be. In fact fully jewelled are quite rare those times.

    5. Personal I believe a date 1830 and a bid is correct. His grandson Louis Clement Francois (1808-1888) continued the business but he was more a physiks with interest in electric and until 1870 the workshopmanager does it. Louis Clement Francois conzentrates his power depending on his interests on chronometers (nautic and astronomic).

Re: Help me to identify this Breguet pocket watch

    Thanks everyone for the info.

Soon I'll put this watch for sale. Could be this ""Pocket watch Gold 18k - Lepine II movement - Dial signed Breguet - Circa 1840 - Wonderful hand engraving"" a fair title for customers?

    Kind regards
