Help Need with Ulysse Nardin Vintage

    Hi guys,

I came across a nice looking Ulysse Nardin 25 jewels automatic on a black & gold day/date dial, listed for sale in Ebay. However what seems to bother me is that the day is displayed in Spanish and the position of the day - any idea from fellow WUS experts? :)

    Hi Roland,

I have no idea actually - but the black and gold combo is very appealing to me :p

    Roland is correct.

As soon as I saw this watch I thought Argentina.

Looking through the sellers other watches I see the familiar
desirable watch brand names and the obligatory Baumme et Mercier chronogaraph.

Although you like this watch you would be paying over the odds for something which isn't what it pretends to
be, it's a creation of the dial printer and laser etcher.

"I work with Workshops in South America (Brazil and Argentina) ".

Now why would any vintage watch seller work with 'workshops'? Red flag!

Don't get me wrong. I didn't accuse you for your taste. Many like watches with black dials (including me). I didn't refer to the appearance, just to quality and authenticy - both missing completely.

Everyone gets tired at some point to analyse such junk. If you consider to buy such a watch, ask yourself whether you would have bought a watch with such pedestrian workmanship new for some hundred or even thousands of $$$. If the answer ist yes, then buy it and enjoy it.

Thanks a million for the valuable opinions, guys!

radger, NT931: The credibility of the seller is indeed shady

Roland: No worries, you are spot on about the quality & authenticity - I should have done a proper research and read more about the history of the brands & models myself - especially when it comes to vintage watches

Have been reading a lot about Omega Seamaster (especially De Ville) these few days...

Yes, but it doesn't actually help. Just a tiny percentage of enthousiasts visit places like this forum, and many believe that they get valuable watches. But when they notice that they were deceived, not all drop the junk into the bin and book it as hard learning. Many of these objects are thrown back into the bay, and than they have lost the well known suspicious origin.

I've no idea how to spoil this crappy business (and don't feel obligated to do). Ebay does its very best to assist the fraudsters; this is accusable in many countries (likely all), but nothing happens.
