    Help! What is this Thermidor?

    Hi all
purchased this time piece at a flea market. Just want to know more about it.
The seller told me it was a 1970s watch and was serviced.
    Hand wound to work.
Cant find information on the Internet. Might be a fake... Zzz

Hi, I wouldn't say it's a fake. Probably a microbrand or a local jeweller who wanted his own "brand".
It's definately French as it says Antichoc on the dial. Movements from France Ebauches use Antichoc schock protection.

I would nevertheless think that it is a redial - depite it "not being worth it" for as obscure a brand as Thermidor. The dial is rather clean, the writing not quite A1 - and it is very unusual to have a numeral right next to a date window.

It's either that or a real design gaffe!

That logic doesn't follow at all. If it was a fake then you'd certainly be able to find some info about the original. Who would fake a brand that nobody had ever heard of?

Looks like a low-cost 1970s watch, possibly French.

Who in earth would fake a famous Thermidor? Of course it is all original and a low cathegory (cheap) watch. I bet they sold these babies at magazine adverts.
The dial is painted with acrylic paint popular at early 70's. You can see it has started to chip at the very sides of the dial due use of stem and the friction it causest to dial.

during the French Revolution Thermidor was the name of a month from 19-20 July to 17/18 August in the Gregorian calendar .The Thermidor owes its etymology to "heat while solar and terrestrial that inflames the air in July and August,"

Re: Help! What is this Thermidor?

Apologies for not articulating my concerns clearly.
I had purchased this tjme piece based on aesthetics. The seller started to share information about the history of this particular watch, being based in France then restored and serviced, then sold in Barcelona.
I wanted to find more information on the internet to validate 'he says she says'.
Thus led me to this forum.
Thanks for your input everyone so far.

From the information i've gathered, it is a low cost watch, which can be found in france/spain region.
I cant find the name of this model, however, it all looks genuine and works a treat.
It would be a bonus, if it was a rare/great time piece.

Nothing of this sort, I'm afraid. A French piece, probably with- as Hartmut said- a movement by France Ebauches, and these movements were found in watches of brands, which one can probably count by the dozen.
Well, if one collects French watches, it's probably a nice thing to have. Date window by the numeral looks weird- somehow disrupts the entire design a bit.
The design reminds me of quite contemporary "easy-to-read" watches.
