Heuer Autavia wreck - ridicolous price

What's the deal? This is an Heuer Autavia wreck from 1965. Who would pay that much money for a wreck like that?
Would be lovely to find in a drawer.

Hmmmmmm. Rather filthy - but if it cleans up nicely, it has potential. The dial is reasonable and the hands don't need swapping either. Sure, there is a pusher and the crown missing but if you know a source for those, you may well be in business. It all hinges on the movement. If this is clean and just needs a service, you may well break even.

Having said that, without seeing the movement, I wouldn't have it at that price. Too much of a gamble.

Dial and hands all original and untouched.
Fantastic for 1965, if it was Rolex it would go for 20 X that price
    Someone wants it for sure

pusher and crown are minor issues, a decent bezel is hard to find and quite expensive.
dial has been relumed, this isn't "all original and untouched", but will still continue to rise.

Re: Heuer Autavia wreck - ridicolous price

The price without a movement picture is ridiculous. Case and dial look genuine, OnTheDash reference table would indicate it as ref. 3646, execution 2, dial type no.3:
OnTheDash - The definitive guide to Heuer.
But still, even if it is the real deal, the one who eventually lands up with this watch must be ready for considerable expenses. That's because saying that Heuer parts are pricey is nothing short of an euphemism. They're a rip-off.
There's rust visible in the area, where the rotating bezel should be. Therefore, another good question is: what's the condition of the movement. When I see rust, I walk away.
Nevertheless, I do believe that this piece has potential.

    "Ridiculous"? Why.
Someone wants the dial and hands, it may be ridiculous to you, but to at least 8 others not so.

A completed auction for a running and good shape sold for $7800. Gives an idea what the potential is if it is restored.

That's the beauty of auction. It finds the market value. If it's ridiculous, it would end with lowest asking price. Movement unseen and bidders are willing to pay for it's existing case, dial and hands value.
