    Heuer Manhattan Chronosplit

    Hi,

I've managed to bag a complete example of this watch - I've been searching for one for ages so you can imagine my joy when I won this on the bay (a lot cheaper than I've seen them go for before).

The watch was advertised as fully working however when it arrived I noticed that the "mode" button that operates the chrono function did not work. Obviously I can return to the seller and get a refund; however I thought I would see if any of you guys think that this is repairable. I've had the back off and everything looks ok but I know nothing about digital movements. The contact for the button is attached and clean and looks just like the contact for the "date" button (which works).

My thinking is if I can get a discount I might keep it and get it repaired. If not it will go back and I will continue the search.

Hmm ... no idea what could be wrong with it. And I don't know whether each watchmaker is fit to a) establish the cause and b) fix it. Do you have a good watchmaker at hand? Maybe you should contact him (or her)?

    Hi
We used to term those 'hybrid' watches with both analogue mechanical and digital.

I think nearly impossible to find a repairer.
Unless its an operation error, I would return

This would be a fix it yourself kind of repair. No watchmaker will give you a fixed price quote but you might get a time and materials quote (you pay for time and any costs, even if not fixed).

I didn't know whether it would be a case of finding someone who knows about digital movements. I don't even know how to troubleshoot the issue. Think it may be going back, unfortunately

    Re: Heuer Manhattan Chronosplit

I've been trying to convince myself that I can live with it. However seen as the chronograph function is one of the integral parts of the watch I can't justify it not working

    Re: Heuer Manhattan Chronosplit

Pusher failure like this is sometimes a matter of the electrical switch not being activated due to some mechanical linkage problem (broken part, misalignment, something loose... etc.). But, as I said, finding a watchmaker who will diagnose this will not be easy. Most in the trade don't touch these. Maybe someone here would do it.

But the person they should probably be doing this for is the seller and not the buyer. These do come on the market in full working order on occasion... but these are not cheap. (Maybe this one was and the risk would be worth it... but I suspect the seller found many bidders for this. Such is often the case.)

I decided to give the contact another rub before boxing it up to return and low and behold it now works! Thanks for the comments.
