Hey helpful people! Please help identify this Titus!

    Hey forum folks,

Been lurking here forever, and realised that this would be the best place to ask this:

Anyone here know anything about this vintage Titus I found at a flea mart yesterday? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...3&id=761564072

Titus info is impossible to find!

    The dial says "Titus Automatic"
The back reads "Solvil et Titus, Geneve, 3988"

Anyone know when it was made?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Apologies for the bad pic.

    Many TIA!

    Ken

It's probably from the 1970s and likely has an ETA movement, perhaps an ETA 2836 or 2790 or similar.

    Hey JimH,

Thanks for the quick reply. Pardon my ignorance, how do you tell just by looking at a fuzzy pic?

    With much appreciation,

    Ken

Case and hands are characteristic of the 1970s as is the day-date complication. JimH knows his watch movements as well.

Solvil and Titus were two of the brands founded by Paul Ditisheim. I believe that "Titus" is a bit of a corruption of "Ditis" (as in Ditisheim), which is another brand under which he sold his watches. He started up all the way back in 1892. Not sure what relation (if any) he was of Robert Ditisheim of Vulcain "Cricket" fame.
