How can I find out more about this pocket watch?

Hi, I'd be very grateful for any advice / tips on how I can find out more about this pocket watch. It's come down through the family, and if the family stories are true would be 18th C. Is it possible to date a watch to see if that's the case? I can't see any makers mark on it either, which doesn't help. Would be happy to take to an expert in the UK if someone can point me in the right direction.

All help gratefully received! Thank you!

Photos of the movement would be extremely helpful. Please try to take some high magnification photos, in focus, and without glare. Show any markings clearly.

Thanks @badbackdan. Complete idiot newbie question - how do I get to the movement? I can lift the glass to get to the face, but not sure what to do then? Thank you!

Once you lift the glass, you should see a little tab at 6 o'clock. Pull up on this to swing the movement out.

This is my watch from 1789. I think yours should be about the same.

The inscription reads Robt Kirk Ballymoney 19

So this is supposed to have belonged to someone who was Irish and lived 1767 - 1798. The Ballymoney bit confirms that the owner could have been Irish, but does anyone have a guess to if this might be the right date? And the 18 in the inscription?

    Thanks so much!

Aha - now found online that a Robert Kirk, watchmaker, took out a lease in Ballymoney in 1781. So right era. Any clues on the number 18?
