How do I find out how old my blancpain fifty fathoms no radiation is?

    Hi
Does anyone know if there is a site where I can find out how old my blancpain fifty fathoms no radiation watch is? The serial number is 300132 - my mother wore this for many years, (although it is a mans watch), so has had a hard life, I remember her having it when I was a child so I know itís relatively old but suspect itís from the 1950ís/60ís - unfortunately both my parents are gone so I canít ask them - if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it!

From 1953 onwards, when the first ones were made. Don't know where to match the serial number. I don't know if Blancpain would give a date without seeing the watch and then I suspect heavy $$$ to be unloaded. And without seeing an image of your watch, one can't say much. I suspect, that you still have difficulties to upload such an image with your first post.

    Hi Sally,

Looks like your reference was made in the 60's. Most likely late 60's. Below is a link to another example with a letter from the Blancpain Vintage Department.

    https://www.europeanwatch.com/30446.html

This watch has a SN 300xxx and is said to be circa 1965. Your watch with a S/N starting 500 could be late 60's. I'm not sure when they ceased production.

    Regards,

This is what the watch should look if you choose to restore it. Its valuable so dont hand it to someone who doesnt know. The lume on the hands should be stabilized. With a new glass it ll look real good. Make sure no alterations are done except from movement service and new glass.

Your watch has RADIUM on the dial and hands
Radium has a half life of 1600 years
So its still as radioactive as when it was applied

The fact it does not glow has nothing to do with the radioactive level - the ZINC had worn out

If it says "No Radiation" on the dial, I would think that it merely has white paint (or luminova, if they had that in those days - although I have some doubts).....

No radium, no luminova. My understanding is that the NO RADIATION label differentiates the civilian version (using tritium) from the military version that had radium or promethium.
