    Huguenin Niello? Pocketwatch case ID

    Hey all,
Bought this in a pile of parts and such. Couldn't tell what it was when I saw it on the net. Got it in the mail today, found the marks on both sides of Huguenin, but is this considered Niello? And does anyone know what the "Gygax" mark means? Most certainly a ladies P/W, the opening for the movement is 29mm. Guess I will have to find something to put in it.

Nice and good luck to find a matching movement and stem. Of course this is an art niveau case made by Huguenin freres. I've also seen the DEP sign sometimes on their cases bit I don't know what it means. I don't think that it ever had some niello/tula inlays otherwise a rest will be anywhere in this nice case in good condition. Do you've any silver marks inside) Otherwise it must be something else like argentan or GyGax ..whatever it is ???

It has the déposé marks on the outside, as well as on the inside, which means registered. It doesn't have any other marks.

Niello is multiple colors of metal. usually a permanently blackened silver background with design highlights in gold and bright silver etc. The Spanish were/are masters of the art of Niello. The case is Repousse' or relief made, where the design ( beautiful) is raised with tools from behind what you are seeing......Hope thats a clear enough description. Regards,
