I have a Jean Pierre pocket watch. It has the Unitas 6497 movement. I purchased it at Christmas time after a new found interest in them as a side hobby to watches. Initially I had a cheap one just to see if one could fit into my life in any meaningful way. Now I can’t do without one. The winding daily routine and it’s always on me along with a wrist watch. I feel it’s more acceptable than two watches.
The issue? It started losing time, not sure what the issue was but it lost 5 minutes in around a day... I figured I’d calibrate it at the weekend. I used my hairspring app which gives me good results. The adjuster went from left to right but wouldn’t come close to good time. Silly me after a couple of Friday beers noticed after sober me ‘calibrated’ it it was off a minute in less than a few hours. I stupidly tried again and rotated the adjuster too far. It came off and the hairspring followed... Darwin Award awarded....
Im in the UK. I have purchased a replacement already but... should I send it for repair considering there was an issue before I made it worse or just let it go on the bay? UK repair centres recommended? It was £200 to buy. The brand may be so so but the movement is decent and I do like it.
Cheers. Photo. :)
