    I just bought this.

WHAT IS THIS? - LOOK - MENS HARVESTER JEWELED SWISS MADE WATCH on eBay.ca (item 380332596334 end time 21-Apr-11 20:28:48 EDT)

Some may wonder why I bought this but I like the red and the touch of gold and the mystery.

Well you can't beat that price!

Nice little watch, probably 1 to 7 jewel, these were sold as dollar watches long while back.

definitely a 1 jewel swiss pin-lever movement in it. why spend money on that watch when you could by one with a 17 jewel movement and is in better condition for the same amount of money or even less. Of course what you do with your money is up to you though.

Yeah. You'll notice that pretty much every other watch from more then 40 years ago will tell you how MANY jewels there are...makes their "Jeweled" claim somewhat ominous. Even pin-levers from that era were often able to claim "17 jewels". You'll probably find that this was a "Boys" watch; the size seems pretty small, even for vintage. The dial is likely plastic. I've got a number of similar watches in my parts bin. Assuming nothing is broken, these can be fun to work on, and they'll run pretty good. Pin levers need to be serviced regularly to keep them from wearing though; the oil on the levers/escape wheel tends to bleed off over time, and then you're left with metal-on-metal action.

As long as you like it... it does not really matter what others think!

I hope your enthusiasm for the watch is still there when the watch is in your hands.

I have recently bought this... I paid a lot more than you... and I dont really know why I pulled the trigger... Think I was seduced by the dial... Will have to wait until it arrives now!

1960s Luxor dress watch, black & gold dial, v good cond on eBay (end time 24-Apr-11 21:47:05 BST)

I like that a lot. Some info on Luxor - a brand acquired by Zenith no less - in this thread. https://forums.watchuseek.com/f11/any...or-189295.html

I don't think there are that many working 17j watches that go for under $5. Even if it turns out to be a bit of a lemon, its nice to buy something on impulse now and again. I know I do.
