I think an unusual pocket watch

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/richard...wnwatch01.html

Just seems an unusual pocket watch to me. About 45mm diameter. You wind it up lifting up that piece on the back.

It has a lever on the side.

    Possibly English I think.

No idea how you set hands, possibly by hand.

[Edit]: Is it a timer, not a pocket watch?

I think its just a part of the watch.

I too am fascinated with it. I hope U.K.member Radger sees this. I am going to guess The lever is for setting. It has big long spring and was part of some specialized equipment. Hope to really know.

the lever could be for setting. if it were a timer, i would expect to see a far more exact breakdown of minutes and seconds on the dial. the puzzling aspect to me is the ratchet-like ring around the movement. perhaps it was a bezel-set watch? it almost looks as though the ratchet ring somehow interacts with the winding. perhaps a bezel-wind? i don't think i've ever heard of such a thing, so take that idea with a big grain of salt. have you tried the NAWCC european pocket watch board? there are some old codgers over there who know tons.

why do you think the dial is weird?

This is a movement with keyless winding by Favre-Brandt.

This forum is good. :c Seems better than alt.horology. :c)

Okay, well, I'll probably put it on Ebay hoping that there is some collector out there who might want it for curiosity or spares. I don't expect it's worth much though.
