I want my first dress watch to be vintage

Hello vintage experts and thank you for reading and for your forthcoming thoughts/suggestions. I have started my path down collecting and wearing some pieces I really like. I have 4-5 weddings to go to in the coming months so the time has come to purchase a dress watch to wear with my suits. To that end I have decided that I want this dress piece to be vintage. From what I have gathered it would seem my best options top purchase such pieces would be ebay and possibly watchrecon. I am looking for your help and guidance here as although I have started looking at a lot of pieces, I understand that are people far more educated in the vintage than I. So here is what I am looking for:

I am very much leaning towards Omega (perhaps seamaster or constellation) or a Longines.
I want silver case as I am not too fond of gold
I know I can change bands but would like something authentic to the time either brown leather or bracelet I am guessing
I know the vintage pieces generally have a smaller case size but I am a slightly larger guy so I would like the largest case size I can get
I would say I would be in the budget range of 500-1000 for this piece
I am open to automatic or hand wind

Along with any suggestions you have I would also love to hear of any sources for purchase that might be good as well. Also, with Ebay should I try and stick with US sellers mostly or does that not really matter?

    Thanks so much everyone....

From an aesthetic standpoint for reference this would be similar to a color scheme I would be interested in....

Sorry for a 2nd post....as far as dial color (since I wear a blue or black suit) I would say silver, white or maybe a blue dial.

There have been quite a few threads recently about vintage Omega watches, which would be a good way for you to start. You can get a nice stainless Seamaster in that budget. They will generally not be larger than 35mm.

Thank you for the links. I am reading them now. In both of them you seem to be a wealth of information so if you don't mind I may lean on your expertise some. I am starting to get an eye for some of the redials if the writing looks a little off. What are your thoughts on the following:

    1) Definitely a lot of polishing done on this one-could not find it on omega site....

    2) No pictures of movement

    5) price is high

I find myself leaning towards the seamaster aesthetically with all steel, no gold.

Those have been very helpful and you seem to know your stuff so if you don't mind me running a few by you I would appreciate it. I have started to get a sense for some redialed watches due to inconsistency in the lettering but here are a couple I found. I do find myself leaning towards seamaster and specifically all steel with no gold.

    1) Definitely highly polished

    (1) Overpolished redial (seller says dials is "restored")
    (2) Looks generally ok with some damage to the dial. Greatly overpriced.
    (3) Not bad overall, possibly service hands. Overpriced.
    (4) Some of the lugs are very badly polished or damaged. No case-back photo? Overpriced.

To consider...I purchased my 1973 Omega last fall from Connoiseur of Time . Handwound cal. 601. Came with COA, guaranteed for 1 yr., serviced, boxes, tag and papers. And if you fancy Art Deco do not overlook Hamilton and Bulova and more. Have fun.

So would it be safe to say that pieces similar to this should be more in the 500-600 range?
