    Info Eterna Kontiki 20

Hi, sorry for my english - I'm french....
I just purchased this beautiful Eterna Kontiki 60's.
Just a few questions because I can't find any history on this model :

Not "gilt" but not that bad, cal.1424ud (low beat), second not original, I like it but... does anyone know about this Kontiki 20?

FYI, size is 38 (bezel), 40*47.

    Thanks and regards,
    Cyril

Don't know about the watch itself, but here's a link to the Wikipedia entry about "Kon-Tiki":

This is probably the best site on vintage Eterna watches:
http://www.schild-eterna.de/ (go to tab "Armbanduhren II" for automatic wrist watches).
However, it is in German, I don't think there is an English (or French) version yet, but the pictures are great!

The gold medaillon on the back actually shows the Kon-Tiki, the balsa wood raft used by Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl and his men upon his quest from the coast of Peru to the Tuamotu Islands of Polynesia in 1948. The men on the raft did wear Eterna watches, and the KonTiki was issued 10 years after this famous voyage.

Your watch is very nice, congratulations. Don't worry about the slightly worn gold medaillon!

This is mine, note the fancy indexes:

Looks like the precursor to the 1960's/1070 Super KonTiki. Very beautiful watch you have there, with an unusual bezel. Congratulations! Here's my KonTiki:

great watches everyone :) the eterna matic kontiki 20 was the model below the super kontiki but its movement was a very good one, all vintage eterna matic movements are very good in terms of quality, reliability and accuracy.

The elapsed-time bezel on the OP's KonTiki has a marking layout I have not seen before. Does anyone know why the numerals are laid out in that way?

I was wondering that too, as its not linear.

It is a decompression table. I am no diver, so I can't really explain the details or practical value in this specific case, but decompression is about the time required to slowly ascend to the surface again, compared to the duration of a dive at a certain depth (I think on the bezel is the depth in feet, and the elapsed time for the minute hand to reach a certain figure is how long You must remain at that depth before You have to start to get up again without taking decompression time into account. E.g. - jump into the water, dive quickly down to 60 feet and remain there for a maximum of about 5 minutes, then come back to the surface quickly, and You're fine. If You stay longer, not so good...).

Here is a patent concerning this:
