    Info needed for Mido watch

Looking at the following watch: RARE Vintage Mido Multifort 1939 17 Rubis 3 Adj Super Bumper Automatic Excell | eBay

I'm unable to find much info on Mido. Is the fact that it stops occasionally a big concern?

Mido are well known and respected. Try a search here and you should find quite a few threads.

For that price I'd expect the watch to be fully services and not stopping. They aren't rare. I'd say it's also a low quality redial - quite typical of an older redial, but I haven't looked at my multiforts recently. A google image search should show you what they normally look like.

There's nothing particularly rare about that watch. I just serviced one with a similar movement, it's an A. Schild ebauche that Mido was using at the time. It's also a small watch, around 28mm across with 16mm lugs. Here are a few quick and dirty pictures I took of it. Name: mido3.JPG

Looks like the watch in the listing has a broken lug. Redial, maybe. And what sounds bad about the listing, is that the seller definitely belongs to that type of sellers, who try to sell every single thing as "very rare". That said, if they were to sell a Ford Scorpio, they'd imply that it's as rare as a Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California.

In the USA, the Ford Scorpio would be rarer. It simply does not exist here.

However, the Ferrari is far more desirable and it's value in the marketplace reflects that.

Lots of things are "rare". That alone doesn't make it valuable.

Thanks. I wasn't necessarily buying into the 'rare' pitch. I just liked the look of the watch. But I'm learning to check closely for re-dials.

Pretty obvious redial too, no lume (hands do have lume, so dial should too) and really poor "potato print" print work.
