    Info on Vintage Benrus

As the title said I'm looking for any info I can get on my grandfathers vintage Benrus. I would like to get it fixed for my Mom who would like to wear her dads watch. Thanks.

I noticed the lip on the caseback. Should be an easy pop open to take a picture of the movement. That would help greatly for more info. Here's one on ebay that looks just like it.

I did pop the back off but everything is attached to the back somehow and I didn't want to mess with it too much.

Yea, the movement w/dial will all lift out of the caseback in one piece. Usually just holding it by the very edges of the dial, you can lift it right out. Don't attempt if you don't feel comfortable with it though as you can drop it and possibly bend the hands or damage dial if you drop it.

I may take a try at it later as the hour hand has already been broken off by someone else.

Thanks for the link. That's the exact watch down to the band.

    Re: Info on Vintage Benrus

The dating on the watch is way off, it's much more modern, more likely 1950-1960. The movement is an ETA one (seems to be ETA 2370 [at least until Harmut, the acknowledged expert on such things, corrects me…]), which was made in 1955-1960, according to the leading database. And also, if you look at the antishock jewel (the gold disk with the ruby jewel at the bottom of your picture) this antishock system only came into widespread production post WWII, so the 1930's date was entirely fanciful on the part of the eBay seller.
If you are going to get it serviced anyway, it might be as well to leave it alone for now, before more damage occurs. Happily, the hands are an easy item to find an exact replacement.
