    Information on Olicana wristwatch?

    Hello,

I just bought this Olicana watch. It looks 1930s to my untrained eye, but I haven't managed to find any information about the maker, country of origin, etc.

It is marked as 'Foreign Made' on the dial, which, if I'm not wrong, was a common designation of watches imported in the UK (where both the seller and I are based) during the midwar period. Imported, then, but where from? I recall reading that many of the watches and clocks imported at that time where manufactured in Germany.

Unfortunately, I don't have an image of the movement, as I haven't received the watch yet.

Any infomation on Olicana would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks!

    Hi and welcome.

I'm sorry no-one has been able to help. I've not heard of Olicana and it not listed in the usual places.

You are right - nearly all watches imported into the UK marked Foreign were made in Germany. It looks interesting.

I've not heard of it either, but being pin set might well shift it into the early Twenties, unless it's a recase of an earlier ladies pocket watch calibre.

    Marrick and Mirrius,

Many thanks for your replies - really appreciated!

Mirius, from some quick reading online, I think you may be right, it could be dating from the early twenties...

A working hypothesis, consistent with your suggestions would be that 'Olicana' was an obscure retailer's (e.g. a jeweller's) brand, using movements imported from Germany in the midwar years. I'm really intrigued by the West Yorskhire connection in the name!

Well, if I manage to find anything out, I'll keep you posted!

    Many thanks again!
