ISO Resources for Waltham Pocket Watches

    Hello vintage friends,

So lately I've become quite interested in Waltham pocket watches. However I've had a hard time finding informative resources on the internet that delve much deeper than a general history of the company, a smattering of models/movements, and perhaps a listing of serial numbers by year.

Does anyone have any good recommendation for something a bit more comprehensive, either in print or online? I am absolutely smitten with these little works of art, and would love more information and guidance.

    :thanks guys! Take it easy!

Perhaps some photos of my (meager but growing) collection will stir the pot.

    1. 1906 Waltham in a Philadelphia Watch Case Co. case.

    2. 1873 Waltham Royal, 11 Jewel movement w/ an unoriginal hand.

    3. 1916 Elgin, 17 Jewel Strand movement in a Wadsworth Referee hunter case (Not a Waltham I know )

If your grandfather's initials are JR, I'm afraid that I may have his watch.

...& I have one more Waltham on the way, a 1903 Model 1894 with a 15 Jewel movement. After that, I hope to add a Waltham Vanguard.

As you can see, I have some big gaps in my knowledge of these pieces, as I'm mostly relying on Ebay descriptions and bits of info that I have scrapped together from a bunch of websites...hardly the most reliable intel Still, all things considered, for a total investment less than $300, these babies are definitely a lot for a little.

(My apologies for the ungainly photo sizes)

    There is a book:

    See:

Timing a century: history of the ... - Google Books

I guess it's a bit hard to find though.

This is the cheapest I could find through google UK:

    or

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=all

Have you gone to NAWCC.org? There's lots of info there. Also if you are into vintage and antique watches consider obtaining the "Complete Price Guide To Watches" by Gilbert, Engle and Shugart. This is published yearly and available at major book dealers. One of the best sources of info on American watches made between 1850 and 1970.

Specifically for Waltham you can look for Roy Ehrhardt's American Waltham Watch Identification and Price Guide. Issued in 1976 so the prices are outdated, but the model information, pictures and production records are still helpful.
