    Jean Renet Pocket Watch?

Hi, thank you for the add.

Im wondering if anyone could help me please, i have recently inherited a lot of watches and been looking through them all and found this pocket watch. I cannot find any information on it. I have got a feeling it may be fake but from searching the internet i cannot find any info on fake jean renet. It could be genuine and i cannot tell anything about its history.

Any advice is grateful. Thank you

Judging by the appearance of it, 1970s-1980s. Any pics of the movement?

Hi, many thanks, i can't seem to open the back. Looks as though someone has tried as a few scratches around the edges.

There should be an opening "lip" on the edge of the case back. If not a protrusion, then maybe a recess. Once you've located it, use a thin blade (something like a Stanley knife) to lift up the back, but do so gently. If you're not confident that you can do that yourself, ask a watchmaker - opening up the case is not something they'd charge any money for.

Like @mkws, I think this is a "fashion" pocket watch from the 70s or 80s in the style of an old watch. I don't think that "fake" or "genuine" has much meaning in this context. The best outcome would be if the case were gold, which is unlikely, but still ... you need to know, right? The answer to that will be inside the case. Show some good photos of the back and perhaps we can give you more specific hints about how to open it.

Were there really any watch manufacturers still producing key-wound watches in the 1970s and 80s? Maybe we should take the date estimates back a century or so, for parts of the watch at least.

    This should prove insightful.

This is wrong on so many levels and potentially hazardous to sight, limb and watch.

    Disregard and consider the source.

    Perhaps?

The key and keystock through the dial are then impressive faux details.

Well, an alternative hypothesis is that somebody took a 19th C pocket/pendant watch and printed the name of a 1970s fashion brand on the dial in a modern font. That's a reasonable guess too.

A third hypothesis is that somebody took a 19th century watch with badly degraded dial and matched it with a modern dial that they liked the look of, and bored an ugly hole through the dial to permit winding (hence the loss of paint around the hole).

Good catch. I will admit that I didn't realize that was damage around the key-hole. At first glance, I though it was some sort of flange or bushing because it looks pretty even and circular.
