I have posted a similar post on the JLC forum, but perhaps this might be an even better place?
I am being seduced by a Jaeger-LeCoultre 60s dress watch which, for a vintage, looks (almost suspiciously) good. Regrettably, I haven’t taken any photos (even though I went today, the second time, explicitly with that aim in mind). That is the extent to which my mind has been captivated, and my heart stolen.
The watch in question is found on facebook, but I cant post the entire link, so here is the last bit after the fb part: /artisandutemps/photos/a.10151277686223600.473877.155624978599/10155631017238600/?type=3&theater, and on the flip side, to my knowledge, the seller is a reputable dealer here in Brussels.
I have seen the movement, and all looks legit. It’s the K881, serviced and in what seems to me a good condition. Then again I am no expert.
I have seen the dial under a loupe, and again, all seems fine: the font, the lettering, the spacing of the logo, both in relation to its elements and the batons, namely the 12, 11 and 1. The symmetry is there, including the wording Automatic and its places. I have researched the piece extensively and even though it is hard to find this exact model (with clean dial), I have indeed found a few and a few others related, some with a cross haired dial.
The question I have pertains to the inside case back. This is an 18kt gold: the markings inside have the Helvetia hallmark, as well as the 0.75 (no 18k) - in almost all examples I found both numbers are present. This shouldn’t be an issue though. However, also missing is a LeCoultre signature, though there is a LC hallmark, which I believe is just as valid. Well, that is my main question actually: is it? The outside caseback also has the A letter following the six digit number.
While I realize that the lack of photos from my side will naturally limit the amount and quality of help which can be offered, I would appreciate your thoughts and any other information related to the watch, movement, dial and, most importantly, caseback.
Finally, apologies if my inadequate research abilities missed obvious answers or other forum entries dealing with this.
Thanks in advance!
