Just spent far too much on a Gruen.... but i like it!

    Hi guys...

With my quest to expand my collection... been looking for a 'day' feature on the watch... as such, just purchased this - which should be with me tomorrow!

will post some pics when it arrives!

Very nice. I hope the hour hand is hiding behind the minute hand!

Very cool! Will be interested to see what's powering it. Besides the day function, love the slightly scalloped markers.

    Thanks!

Unsure of the movement... its described as a Automatic..... would be nice to see a in-house movement.... this would be nice:

bidfun-db Archive: Watch Movements: Gruen 711CD

My only slight concern is the 'base metal bezel'.... im hoping its the light reflecting on the lugs... and not wear to any sort of 'chrome' plating! As its described as 'Mint'... Im keeping my fingers crossed!!

I like the look of this watch, maybe it's older than it looks
as it's in a base metal case. You'ld expect some wear, but you
might be lucky and it really is mint, I'm certain that some sellers
don't know the meaning of the word.

Not sure of the age... guessing a period of 1955 to 65... would be glad to hear other thoughts on this!

As for 'Mint'.... I very rarely class a watch as Mint when selling... I may say Mint Dial... or Mint Case... but thats only if it looks perfect (as new)...

The woman I bought it from has zero feedback.... but from a few emails back and forth, I gather she is selling it for an elderly family member (think she said uncle!)... and states she knows nothing about it!! It was only listed this morning... asked if there was a buy it now price.... came to an 'agreement' and sold... posted this morning also and hopefully here in the morning!!

The watch doesn't have an automatic movement. Here is the exact same watch dial/movement Vtg Mens Gruen 522CD 17J Watch Movement w/ Date-Day @ 6 | eBay

I do think this is a post Gruen family watch - perhaps pre Gruen industries though.

As you know, I am rather fond of Gruen - although I don't have any this recent. I think Itri has it right, that is the movement I would likely expect. I think the closest I have to this is a scrap movement

    Here are several of mine

    415CA

    460SS

    420SS Pan Am

Another 420SS Pan Am (don't you hate it when you leave the crown out and don't realize until after you've put the camera away)

    A good brand to collect

So, what is too much then?
