Kienzle Max Bill-ish On The Way

Was doing my usual hunt and came across this one. Running and the date works..... Plating is still there and not all worn away. I expect a 1 jewel movement but I did not pay tons for it. Needs a new crystal but I love the edge to edge look.

German made Max Bill look with out the Max Bill price tag....seller photos....

I should have a crystal that fits it.

Very nice find. Apply a light coat of boiled linseed oil to the watch. And even on that band. Let air dry for 5 days. Then rub with soft clean cloth. Plating will be shiny and protected like this vintage buckle on vintage strap. If you do that let us know how it turns out. We'll have some good before and after pics here. And don't worry about getting any on the crystal. It easily rubs clear. As a matter of fact boiled linseed oil is excellent for clouded lens covers of you car headlights too.
WARNING: keep oiled rags outside in well ventilated area or dispose of properly. Do not place in garbage. Highly flammable.
And I wonder if re-gilding works here. https://www.amazon.com/Martha-Stewar.../dp/B007C7XKWE Remove the crystal and movement and strap. Clean them.. Apply a thin coat of boiled linseed oil to case and strap and crown. I guess this will give the gild a foundation to adhere to. A couple of days later apply gold gild. After that drys apply a thin surface coat of boiled linseed oil. Let that air cure for 5 days. Then dazzle us with the photos of the re-finished gold gem with original dial.

The band is being removed as soon as it is in my hands. I am building up a pile of the rather vile things. I know some like them and I know they will work fine on some watches....but they can and do damage many watches.

Interesting idea about the linseed oil. I use it on woodwork but have never thought of applying it to metal.

The crystal is cracked so I don't care what happens to it as it will be replaced. From my understanding the base metal on most of these were brass. I will have a closer look once it arrives as I have seen pictures from sellers that look bad but when the watch arrives it looks better in person.

"Boiled" linseed oil. Boiled means there are chemical additives to linseed oil that enable it to harden over a few days. If you want the brass to patinate don't apply it. If you want to help preserve as is or polished, apply. I just got a brass case Ruhla. Even has drilled lugs.

It arrived today. I changed out the crystal but I will need to order a correct one that is a dome only with a very thin ledge. I found a Kienzle one that I will order.

The movement is a 0 jewel 051N52 but is clean and running very well.

Behind that cracked, yellows, and scratched up was a beautiful clean silver dial. The case has far less wear than I expected.

I was a bit overly excited to get a band on it to try it on so I grabbed what was available at hand. I did some digging and found this Kreisler.
