    Le Jour Chronograph info?

    Hi,

I'm new to this website, so I'm sorry if I post this in the wrong section.

This Le Jour Chronograph watch was my Grandfather's and was given to me when he passed away.

I have been trying to find out information about this watch and where I can get replacement parts and have it serviced.

It also has 'Jeep' on the face in the same font used by General Motors on their car brand making 4x4 vehicles. I was wondering if it was a promotional watch for Jeep maybe?

    Please see photos attached.

    Many thanks

    Glenn

The watch looks to be a Val 7750. LeJour made these in many variations in the 1970s-80s.

It does look to be a "Jeep" commemorative/promotional, but back then Jeep was owned by American Motors Corp (AMC).

(And has been owned by Chysler since 1987, not GM, GM only has the rights to the "Hummer" brand name, which it bought from AM-General)

Thanks for the information on both the watch and Jeep, GM, Chysler, and AMC.

I'm from London so wasn't a 100% who owned who back then.

By Val 7750 i take you mean Valjoux 7750? This is an automatic movement? My watch is a manual movement, not sure if this helps in any way? Do you have any idea on value?

I take it Le Jour are no longer making watches anymore? Has someone bought them out?

Is there anywhere to get replacement glass, as my local watch shop say that they cant get glass the correct thickness in that diameter?

    Many thanks

No idea of the value. And, I have no idea if LeJour is still in business.

If it is manually wound, it is likely a 7765, the manual, two register version of the 7750. As to the crystal, that case was fair common, I had one and have seen several on ebay (usually with 7750s, several brands used that case), They use a standard diameter flat mineral crystal, Jules Borel and Otto Frei stock them, Cousins probably does as well.

Your local shop did not look very much... these are flat crystals, not odd shaped crystals. Find another watchmaker.

You will need to open the back to figure out which movement LeJour used for this watch. The company was an assembler not a maker. (The name is now being used by an Asian marketer to push sinobling. I assume rights to the name have been sold.)

I value vintage LeJour watches as good representatives of the Swiss industry in the 70's.

Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?
People need to be able to identify the watch with themselves. It's based on emotion." - Ralph Furter

...that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before and will be again and might be now!
