Longines Masonic Pocket watch help needed please

    Hey all,

ok so i picked up a what appears to be pretty nice 15-17 jewel(not sure of the jewel count) Longines pocket watch the
watch is very very clean and still works runs and keeps excellent time.
i tried using RANFFTto iD the movement but unfortunately there is no match on that website ive browsed multiple websites and all i keep finding that has the 3 bottom bridges like mine is supposed to be a minute repeater, which clearly mine is not.
im not sure at this point what to think if anyone could id the movement grade or possibly point me in the right direction id be very thankful

If you can't find the info on your own, the best thing that you can do is to contact the Longines heritage department- if you provide them with the pictures and the serial number on the movement, they'll send you all the info about the watch that they have in their archives. They respond within a day or two, and it's free of charge.

According to this fleabay sale, it's a Cal. 19.79:

Longines Chronometre 19.79, 17 jewels Pocket Watch movement & dial ... | eBay

...although the initial "19" depends on the movement size (yours may be smaller or larger). Your serial number (978481) dates the watch to 1898 but I am not sure whether that is quite correct. The watch looks more recent than that. It would be best to check that assessment with Longines themselves.

Not sure that this was originally a chronometer grade movement. Longines was in the habit of sending raw movements to the USA for custom casing by jewelers. The "Fast Slow" on the regulator and nickel finish is a clue.

You would purchase a case in a standard size and the jeweler would mate the movement to the case. The price of the package was based on the grade of both.

There is an patent date on the US made Crescent branded case (Dec 7, '85 or '95), so an 1898 date for the movement seems reasonable.

Longines should be able to confirm this.
