Longines navigation master watch - US Army

    Hey WUS

I got this as a gift. I donít know much about it at all. Was hoping to get some more info from the experts here.

The chain is after market. I just put it on so I can use it from time to time.

The back is really rubbed out. Barely legible writing.

    Thanks! Name: IMG_4050.JPG

Welcome to Watchuseek! It looks like a US army observation watch by Longines-Wittnauer from around WWII. It is also a 24 hour watch (the hour hand goes round once every 24 hours, not 12, with "up" being midnight), has a power reserve display (which shows that it is currently completely unwound) and an adaptation to indirect centre seconds. But then, you may well know all this already.....

Thank you Hartmut. Much appreciated. Yes it is unwound as of now, it does not see so much use being that I donít walk around in a 3 piece suit on the regular. Would you have any idea of the trade value of this piece? All is working great, but as you have seen from the pictures it is pretty scratched up.

Thanks for the welcome and expertise.

I would think this watch would sell for $700 plus one just sold on ebay
for $730.00. The case looks great for what it is and it's age. I don't
think it detracts from it's value in any way.

Wouldn't the person who gifted you the watch be a little offended to find out you traded or sold it?

Nice collectable piece and a real conversation starter once you learn how to read 24 hour time easier.

I would keep it. Don't need a suit and it's hip to wear on a chain with jeans

Yes. I would assume that they would be just a little offended. But like every man, I want to know whatís in my pocket, be it hold or sell.

Iíll give the chain + jean thing a shot and attribute all the compliments to the DON.

    All the best.

A serious problem due to the uncertain value of an old ticker. Read the time from your phone, and replace the watch by a bunch of bucks - shockproof, no need for maintenance, and precisely to estimate.

    Hi there,

was just kidding. Actually I'm no good guy, i.e. I enjoy to have a watch in my pocket which not everybody has. But I don't mind the reason - it can either be an expensive watch, or a rare watch, or the last survivor of the many noisy pinlevers, or whatever. And finally yes, I'd like to own your Longines, preferably as gift.
