    Longines Pocket Watch

My latest.. this very cool 14k Longines pocket watch, looks to be around a size 12 (gold weighed in at 19.5 grams).

The only flaw is that black spot at the 10 hour mark. I tried to clean it up but no luck. Maybe the tarnish is under the lacquer. Anyway, it was a real pain to clean.. took a lot of effort just to get the second hand off, the screws were all in too tight, cannon pinion didn't want to come off (I needed to use my staking set to put it back on.. ugh), etc... but I didn't give up. lol Here is the movement:

Any ideas of age or make of movement? Is Longines the maker? I saw some data bases that contradicted themselves so I think it is from around 1918. It looks similar to some
    Ulysse Nardin's I've seen. Here's a few more pics..

    Thanks for looking,

Longines 18.89M, as indicated on the movement. Your guess for the date is reasonable, but why not just ask Longines themselves. They will send you the information from their archive for free. Just set up an account on their website and send them the information they need.

Very nice piece. Love the case geometry. Can I ask the weight of the entire watch? I've always wondered what percentage case weight is in relation to whole piece.

Total weight is 46.4 grams, or 1.63 oz.

BTW I got this from a friend that bought 8 pocket watches from a guy (they were his grandfathers, so maybe he got them from his dad). He sold me the gold one, but kept this one! A size 18 Illinois with 24 jewels! I never seen one before. He said it took him 4 hours to overhaul it! The dial is sterling silver and twice the thickness of most normal dials, and it's in a beautiful swing out case.

The dial says Illinois, but I can't read the name on the back.. looks like it says Chaz Raton, Passaic NJ.

    Nice Longines

Can you show a pic of the dial of the Illinois?

According to the pocket watch database it is a 24J 18s Bunn Special Model #6. The watch is railroad grade and was made in 1896

    https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/sear...linois/1341088

This might have been used by a person working on the railroads or somebody that wanted one of the most accurate watches out there at the time.

Unfortunately I don't have the watch, but I cropped the image my friend sent me from the entire lot, and you can't see the name. I know, since I saw it that it only says "Illinois" on the dial.

BTW, this guys grandfather also made watch cases and clock cases. He made this case and the matching bows. Very nice work! In the box of stuff my friend bought, there were several parts of cases like this one..
