Longines Pocket Watch Sl no: 2175532 Railway Regulator

    Hi,

Very excited to have found this Longines pocket watch. Serial no: 2175532 denotes its make around 1907. 18.69 is engraved just next to the balance which defines the caliber as far as my search has revealed. The drawback is that the ceramic dial is cracked and chipped.

Any added information will be greatly valuable. Does this watch make a good collectors item? Please help.

    Thanks and regards

A pity about the dial. Even in the best of states, this watch looks like a decent watch but nothing excessively special compared to a lot of what else is on the market. As it is, I doubt that it is of great value. Most would now consider it a "parts watch", i.e. a donor for one in better condition in which one particular part was broken.

That's a new and different patent. The balance cock is marked with the Swiss patent indicator (the swiss cross) and number 16831, which can be seen here: Espacenet - Original document

The patent was deposited by Charles Brisebard from France in 1898, and appears to the related to the hairspring pin. That would likely make this watch of some interest to certain collectors (although, as was said, the watch in general is in rather poor condition).

If you write to Longines, give them the serial number and photos, they will telly all about your watch, from their hand written records

    Hi,

Bought it yesterday, just so that I could have a longines in my collection even in its dire state :) It was not in working condition...anyway I oiled it a bit and left it on its own for 4 hours and much to my delight...the watch started working!!! Since then I have wound it twice and its performing perfectly. I guess its got life in it yet so I'll just hold on to it for sometime :D

    Regards

    Hi,
    Hi,

Thanks for the information, I'm a novice and my interest in this field is also just few months old. So I was surprised and delighted by your information which you could tell looking only at the photograph! I had the watch in my hand and couldn't make out anything :) Thanks again.

    Regards

Yes ..please first cleaning and than oiling otherwise it's killing. The old mud and harderned oil will work like Sandpaper on the fine pins. There is no way back afterwards.

    Kind regards Silke
