A Lord Elgin for my modest collection

    Hi everyone,

It has been awhile since I shared a watch from my collection so I thought I would share this one. This watch was an anniversary gift from my lovely and oh-so-understanding wife. She has good taste in watches too.

This is a 1944 model with a 21j 559 movement. Very nice dial and case and even came with the original hang-tag and probably the original leather strap. Just going into the shop now for a COA, then on to my wrist.

Nice old watch! I just got my first American Elgin a few months ago, but not as old as yours. Mine is from the 50's. Enjoy!!

    These watches are underappreciated masterpieces.

Post some pics when it comes back. I hope they were able to find a crystal for you as this one is a bit distracting... if not, I hope they polish it.

    Thanks for posting!

Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?

Thanks. This is my first of their higher jewel count stuff. They are really nice watches especially for the prices that you can buy them at. Have you ever posted your Elgin here?

Yeah the crystal had a lot of microscratches. I did some polishing on it before setting up the service and it came out pretty good.

Interesting that quality was so good as the industry in America was dying.

Very nice. The last time I checked in your photo didn't show. Great looking watch.
