Picture LUXOR: arrived today... not what I expected!

    Hi gent,

The Luxor watch I have been waiting for arrived today.

As I have said before, I bought this watch for the dial.... I love it!

Now... Im not sure what I was hoping for when opening up the watch... But it was not this!

    It has a 17j FHF-ST 96:

bidfun-db Archive: Watch Movements: FHF 96

As for the age of the watch... its was sold as 60's and I think that sounds about right!

I am slightly disappointed when looking inside... then I look at the dial and it does not seem to matter

What do you think? Is this a great example of style over substance?

I think it looks rather nice!

Why are you disappointed? Were you expecting Zenith movement (Cal. 25#2 series) inside? I am not aware of Zenith movements in other brands except Movado (during their cooperation 1969-1984) and a few others (e.g. Panerai, Daniel Roth, Concord, Rolex) but only in the post quartz crisis period. And probably Favre-Leuba since they cooperated, but even those have both names on the dial in at least some cases. As for rather unknown brands, I know of no legitimate example.

That is mighty fine looking watch in good condition, if it keeps reasonable time and the movement is correct what does it matter. You don't look at the movement when it's on your wrist. Wear it with pride, bet it gets some admiring comments. my opinion of course but I wouldn't be disappointed in the least.

    Hi Hartmut...

Was certainly not expecting a Zentih movement! I have only found a few 'Luxor' branded watches and they have generally had better grade movement...

I only used the 'Zenith' backdrop, as I think (could be wrong) that Zenith bought out the brand in the 80s?

Thanks guys for the thumbs up!!

    Cheers guys!

As for timekeeping... it running ok - gained approx 5 seconds in 4 hour! making 30s over 24 hours! I can live with that!!

The seller (who is also supposedly a collector to) said he bought it as 'new old stock' a few years ago... could explain the condition!!

I too wouldn't be dissapointed with that....cracking dial, and not a bad mov't either really, which needs a spot of regulating by the sound of it?!!

I've got a fairly cheapo watch that I bought cos I liked the dial, and it's got an ultra sophisticated 1 jewell mov't in it

    Bovvered??? Not in the slightest

    Now...........go enjoy that watch

Very nice dial, Movement is nicely finished, I would want one too, wonder if anymore NOS will show up? I like the Brand name too, sounds like a Casino I once went to...spent too much time loosing my money there.
