MAJOR ebay gamble. Any info on the maker?

Long story short - I fell in love with a watch I knew nothing about - but I knew I had to have it. The listing did not have photos of the movement, the description was vague, the dial is unmarked, the seller is overseas and I'm not familiar at all with the advertised maker. All red flags, right? Whatever - I love the way it looks and am thrilled with the price. Now, can anyone give me any background on the maker or presumed authenticity?

EDIT: Investigation has led me to believe that Grana is the former name of Certina.

Looks nice! The case looks a little overpolished but that might just be the pictures.

Global Watch Straps here in the Netherlands is a big used parts seller. They know what they've got so I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a high grade movement as they would have advertised it.
The dial is very dirty but you might be able to clean it up with some rodico or if you're brave withing something more aggressive. It looks like enamel which is easier to clean than a painted dial.

Cool watch, don't see many of these around.

When I read 'MAJOR ebay gamble', I was thinking somebody'd bid on something like an Omega Constellation without asking Desmond!

At $51, it's a bit of a gamble, but it looks like a nice watch, and I know the 'Gotta have it!' feeling. I hope the dial cleans up, but be careful - I've had the entire brand name lift off in a cleaning solution (Note to self: DON'T use Hagerty's Jewelry Cleaner on textured dials!). And whatever you do, DON'T RUB!

I've bought from that seller, twice I think, and they shipped quickly and the items were just as listed.

To be honest with you the authenticity of the dial patina is what drew me to the watch. That, and the style of the hands and numerals. I'll have it serviced but I want to keep the original patina.

I think you'll fit in here just fine! Post some photos when it arrives

    Nice watch

The dial patina looks like the classic look you see on recreated modern stuff like wall clock dials!!, but if this is genuine its very cool indeed

    Congrats,

Looks like a very nice watch from the late 20s/early 30s imo.... with nice 'moon style' hands.

My only hands on experience with Grana is a Grana military ATP watch. I have seen Military Pocket watches also made by Grana and the very rare and collectable W.W.W. Grana.

The quality of these movements were always very good!

    Or not!

I would suggest its a painted metal dial and I would leave it well alone....

Congrats again and look forward to seeing your pics.

I'm not surprised you were drawn to this watch, I liked it as soon as I saw the pic.
It was the patina of the dial which drew me also.

It should be realised that Patina is easily removed but impossible to replace.
